Meet Jetske
How did you first discover your passion for photography and decide to start Jetske Photography in Sioux City, IA?
My passion for photography started circa 2006 during my senior year in high school. I used to photograph random pictures with my old digital camera, and then I’d edit them in photoshop. I became increasingly immersed in the world of Photoshop as well, so I saved up and upgraded into a DSLR camera that way, I can utilize its tools to enhance and touch up my photos.
What types of photography services do you offer at Jetske Photography, and what sets your work apart from others in the area?
I do a wide range of styles from senior photography for students that are graduating from high school or college, family photography, to business and corporate headshots specialize for individuals from all walks of life. I think what sets me apart is my ability to convey and capture a person’s true essence.
Can you share some memorable moments or experiences you've had while capturing special moments for your clients?
Wow! I have had countless moments like these, it’s so difficult to choose one! Every session is truly unique!
What do you enjoy most about being a photographer in the Siouxland community?
For me, photography is not just about capturing a beautiful image; it’s about telling a story. Photography also allows me to connect with people in a way that is impossible through other means. Capturing someone’s portrait, for example, gives me the opportunity to see into their soul and tell their story through their eyes. It’s a powerful way to connect with people and share their stories. It’s very similar to my former career as a news reporter, where I used to tell stories on air. In the same way, I’m telling stories through my images.
How do you approach capturing the unique essence and personalities of your clients in your photographs?
Simply talking with them and getting to know more about them. As a photographer, giving my client’s undivided attention is crucial. It helps me build a rapport and creates a comfortable environment for them to enjoy the photoshoot. This enables me to tailor my approach and style to meet their needs and desires, resulting in a final product that reflects their personality and style. It’s all about focusing attention to detail and focusing on my client’s needs and preferences, as this will result in a positive and successful photoshoot experience.
Do you have a favorite location or setting in Sioux City that you love to use for photoshoots?
I sure do! Downtown Historic 4th’s street filled with beautiful architecture that make excellent backdrops for all different types of sessions! I also love Stone State Park – that’s gotta be one of my favorite places to shoot in the fall! I also travel for photography!
Could you share a particularly challenging or rewarding project that you worked on recently?
Yes! Spring was a very busy time this year – I was given not one, not two, but three big opportunities to partner with Morningside University, Sioux City Community School District, and Western Iowa Tech Community College. I had photoshoots landing on the same day and that was quite challenging, but also very, very exciting at the same time.
How do you stay inspired and continue to evolve your craft as a photographer?
Staying inspired as a photographer can be a challenge, but I do several things to keep my creativity flowing. I like visiting new cities and seeing unfamiliar places. Changing my scenery helps me see things in a different light and inspires new ideas for my photography. I also follow tons of inspiration online and research new techniques and styles. Most importantly, I take breaks from work when needed, so I take time for self-care, like weightlifting at the gym or running outdoors with our poppers. This helps me tremendously and gives me more energy and creativity.
Are there any upcoming projects, collaborations, or events that Jetske Photography will be involved in?
Yes! Big projects are underway and I can’t wait to share the news soon!
